Our Summer Newsletter with the latest news from Australia and overseas

Our Summer 2023/2024 Newsletter aims to bring everyone up-to-date with the latest developments in New South Wales as well as news from across Australia and around the world.

With the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Act coming into effect on Tuesday 28 November 2023, we can now provide some helpful information so terminally ill people in this state can gain a greater understanding of the process, if they decide to choose to end their lives quickly and peacefully under this new, compassionate law.

We have included reports on our last two webinars for 2023 on End of Life Doulas and Understanding the Option of Voluntary Assisted Dying.

We announce Griefline's Free Grief and Bereavement Support for Family and Friends of those using VAD.

This newsletter also includes a book review by DWD board member, Dr Liz Jacka of the newly published book, 'A completed Life' by the late Dr Rodney Syme. Rodney’s first two books were about the need for VAD laws, but his latest book goes further. In it he makes a powerful argument that there are two categories of people who are not covered by the existing Australian VAD laws: people with dementia and those who have had a “completed life”.
